Silchar Medical College will get infrastructural boost and improved quality services soon. The state government is taking steps to improve the infrastructure and quality of medical services at besides opening a cancer hospital there.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday said this. He was addressing the golden jubilee celebration programme of Silchar Medical College.

“A cancer hospital would also be opened here where cancer patients of the area can avail treatment facilities and initiatives have been taken to improve the medical facilities by incorporating latest technology,” the chief minister said.

Sonowal urged the medical professionals to work with utmost earnestness and devotion to win the trust of the people. He asked them to set the goal of making Silchar Medical College one of the best medical institutions not only in India but in the entire South East Asia.

The chief minister also announced that more medical colleges would be set up in Barak Valley for improving the public health care scenario of the region.

Sonowal said a conducive environment for rapid development of the Barak Valley districts has been created through Namami Barak festival by harnessing the area’s potential and resources.

Focusing on the equal development of all sections of the people, the chief minister said the state government is working for ensuring dignity of life following the ideals of great personalities like Mahapurush Sankardev, Ajan Fakir, Rabindra Nath Tagore and Swami Vivekananda.

He also affirmed that the relentless campaign against corruption would continue so that all government schemes are implemented properly and the people must also keep a strict watch over the functions of the government.

He also said in order to bring in big investments and generate avenues for employment for the educated youth of the state, Advantage Assam: Global Investment Summit is going to be held in the state which would project Assam as an investment destination.

Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement of northeast being the new engine of growth of the country, Sonowal said that the Investment Summit would highlight the region’s inherent potential to investors worldwide.

Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dilip Kumar Paul, Chairman of Silchar Medical College Governing Body and PWD Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, several MLAs, former union minister Kabindra Purakayastha, commissioner and secretary of health department were also present on the occasion among others.

Earlier, the chief minister chaired a review meeting with the deputy commissioners, superintendents of police and other top government officials of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts at DC Office Conference Hall, Cachar where he reviewed the status of various government schemes.
