International kick-boxer Phurba Sherpa from Sikkim has been selected for the Pro-Kickboxing League 2018.

Sherpa is the only kick-boxer from Sikkim to participate in this professional kick-boxing league, which is scheduled to be held in October this year.

She recently attended the selection trial held from August 3 to August 5 at the International Martial Arts Academy, Rohini in Delhi.

She has been selected for the 60 kg category of the league.

Speaking to media persons on Thursday afternoon, Sherpa expressed her immense happiness after being qualified for the professional league.

She mentioned that only 8 best martial artists have been selected in each weight category. “The selection trial was really tough among around 30 contenders in the 60 kg category who came from different parts of the country, but I am really happy to be qualified in my weight category,” said Sherpa.

In her interest in professional kick-boxing since long time, Sherpa has participated pro-kick boxing event held at Bhubaneswar in 2016.

“I have interest in professional kick-boxing since long and now, I happy to be a part of the mega event Pro Kickboxing League to be held for the first time in the country,” she expressed.

She will again leave for Delhi in the end of this month to sign the agreement. This live telecast of this league will be aired by sports channel.

Thirty-year-old Phurba Sherpa is from Upper Sumin in East Sikkim and is presently working as the State kick-boxing coach of Sports & Youth Affairs Department.

She won an international silver medal for the country in 2017 at Turkmenistan and represented India in three other international competitions. She has also bagged four gold medals in national championships.
