Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, a section of Home Guards stated that despite their best efforts, the Home Guards of Sikkim have not received appointment to meet the Sikkim CM to place their grievances.

They stated that the Sikkim CM has mentioned in his recent speech that the Home Guards of Sikkim have been getting the best salaries among Home Guards in other States of India.

He informed that the Home Guards of Sikkim were getting salaries at the rate of Rs 312 per day which comes around Rs 9,672 on working for 31 days and Rs 9,360 on working for 30 days in a month.

On the same, they mentioned that home guards in Delhi have been drawing Rs 20,190 in Delhi per month and the salary of Rs 18,770 giving to home guard in Goa. “We are not satisfied with our salaries while seeing salaries of home guard in other States as it is very difficult for us to run our families with this salary. So we urged the government to provide us the salary at par to the police constable,” they appealed.

They mentioned that home guards have to face written and viva examination to get the job and also to undergo through 90 days police training.

The Home Guards also urged the Government to regularise their service on completing 5 years like other ad hoc, MR and WC employees of the State.

There are a number of Home Guards, who have been working for many years and even few of them were working for more than 30 years as home guards. “We are very hopeful with that the CM would understand our problem and regularise us on completing five years of the service,” they said.

They mentioned that the Sikkim CM had announced to regularise Home Guards having the service of more than 15 years as night guards in a meeting last year and following the same a notification was also taken out but no action has been taken yet.

However, they urged the Sikkim Government to regularise them on the basis of completing the service of five years instead of 15 years.

The Home Guards have also demanded to provide them medical facilities, travel allowance and stop the practice to withdraw them from the service in case of any mistake.
