Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party has asserted that the first public meeting of Hamro Sikkim Party of Bhaichung Bhutia, which was launched recently in Delhi, was totally anti-Sikkim.

The ruling party stressed that that the statement of Bhaichung Bhutia on calling the democracy and rule of law in Sikkim since 24 years as ‘silence of crematory ground’ has shown his anti-Sikkim thought, behaviour and public interaction style.

SDF party has strongly condemned the anguish, disrespectful, unconfirmed and unauthenticated statement of Bhaichung Bhutia against the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling and other people’s representatives.

A SDF press release issued by its spokesperson, Bhim Dahal stated that Bhaichung has closed his eyes to the truth of decrease of the poverty from 41 per cent in 1994-95 to five per cent in present Sikkim and to continuous and direct relief and poverty elevation programmes of the SDF government in last 25 years to uplift the living standard of the people.

The release added that he has not able to see the heights of the development taking place in Sikkim when he was busy playing football in last two decades.

While criticizing the allegations of Bhaichung, the release stated that Bhaichung Bhutia has became active in politics earlier in West Bengal and now in Sikkim just with his ‘daydreaming to come into power and has made all allegations just from his imaginations’.

The release mentioned that the people of Sikkim were in shortage, poor and helpless when SDF party came into the power for the first time and now there was huge improvement in the standard of living of the people of Sikkim.

It also added that the people of Sikkim presently living in pucca buildings and their children have been getting free education up to higher levels and people have been doing organic farming and tourism.
