Sikkim’s Namchi adjudged as best performing Smart City in Northeast

South Sikkim district headquarters Namchi has been adjudged as the Best Performing Smart City in the North Eastern Region.

It was announced during a two-day long review meeting of flagship schemes of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for northeastern States held on Friday and Saturday at Agartala, the State capital of Tripura.

The first day of the meeting, which had the presence of Secretary MoHUA, Durga Shanker Mishra, was also attended by all the Mission Directors of the Ministry.

The first day witnessed discussion on various flagship programmes in detail and related issues and problems were addressed. The performance of each State/city was also reviewed and under the Smart City Mission, Namchi Smart City was declared the best performing city in the whole of northeastern region.

The Secretary lauded the efforts of Namchi Smart City and personally congratulated the CEO of Namchi Smart City, GT Bhutia for his exemplary work in achieving such remarkable progress.

He also directed the National Mission Director to hold a workshop for CEOs of all north east states in Namchi during the month of January 2019 so that they could learn from Namchi Smart city.

The second day’s meeting was chaired by the Minister of State [Independent charge] Hardeep Singh Puri, who also congratulated Namchi Smart City for holding the number one position in the Smart city mission followed by a huge round of applause from all the delegates of this review meeting.
