Dr Sanjay Upreti, who was stabbed by a jilted lover on December 14 has succumbed to his injuries.
45-year-old Dr Sanjay Upreti breathed his last at around 3am on Friday at Neotia Hospital in Siliguri.
Dr Upreti sustained stabbing injuries while trying to save a sanitary attendant of the STNM hospital in Gangtok, who was attacked by a person named Thinlay Bhutia.
Dr Sanjay Upreti was stabbed near his groin in the attack that eventually led to amputation of his left leg.

Dr Upreti and the sanitary attendant Kalawati Chettri were airlifted to Siliguri for better treatment on December 15 after orders from Sikkim chief minister PS Tamang.
Meanwhile, the medical condition of Kalawati Chettri is also stated to be critical and is battling for his life.
Dr Upreti was a senior doctor in the cardiology department of the STNM Hospital in Gangtok.
“Angry with girlfriend who refused to talk to him while she was at hospital in Sikkim’s Gangtok to attend to a sick relative, man goes on stabbing spree, attacked doctor and sanitation attendant,” police had said.

Dr Upreti suffered multi-organ failure leading to his demise in the wee hours of Friday.
Sikkim BJP president DB Chauhan said: “I express my heartfelt condolence on the sad demise of renowned cardiologist Dr Sanjay Upreti. The demise of Dr Upreti has caused an irreparable loss to medical fraternity.”
