Sikkim South district collector Ragul K on Sunday flagged off an open marathon held as a part of Poshan Maah celebration in Namchi.

Themed ‘Sahi Poshan Desh Roshan Marathon’, the event was organized by Social Justice and Welfare department, in collaboration with Sports & Youth Affairs department, South.

The marathon, flagged off from Central Park, had four categories – men’s half marathon, women’s 10-km run, women veteran’s 10-km run and men veterans’ 10-km run.

Prashant Bishwakarma, Rohit Chettri and Manjil Rai stood first, second and third respectively in men’s marathon.

Anjana Gurung, Sushma Tamang and Ranjita Rai secured first, second and third position respectively in the women’s 10-km run.

Likewise, in the men’s category of veterans’ run, B S Gurung stood first, followed by Deepak Mainali second and M P Gurung in second and third place respectively.

In the women’s veteran category, Reepa Lepcha secured first position, Pemkit Lepcha stood second and Chhyasang Lama took the third position.

The winners were awarded with cash prizes, medals and certificates.

The runners who finished within the top-10 were presented with consolations prize and certificates.

Sports deputy director Thsering Ongmu, district programme officer for Poshan Abhiyan Jyotshna Khatiwara, Namchi CDPO Laxman Tamang and Sports assistant director Basant Pradhan, alongside officials and staff of concerned departments were present on the occasion.
