Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party has strongly criticized and condemned the statement of the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on the monthly menstrual cycle of women.

On the same, the party has demanded the CM immediately apologize to entire women community of world in public for his mocking remarks on menstrual cycle of women.

The party has threatened to show the power of the women if the CM would not apologize for his statement.

SKM party Nari Morcha leaders and workers addressed a press conference here on Friday with black bands on their arm and with placards to protest the statement of the CM.

They informed that the while addressing a meeting of Scheduled Caste on 05 December at Gangtok, the CM commented on the monthly menstrual cycle of women in a disrespectful manner and called them untouchable during periods.

Nari Morcha general secretary Pavitra Bhandari stated that the remark of the CM with laughing on the month periods was an insult and an attack on the self-respect and dignity of women community of the world. She further asserted that the statement also shows the narrow minded thoughts of the CM.

Nari Morcha chief convener, Kala Rai lambasted the CM for his remarks. The ruling party has been talking about reservation and equality to women in the State and on other hand the CM mocks women on the monthly periods, she added.

Another Nari Morcha member, Jamyang Bhutia stated that Kamakhya Mandir annually celebrates this occassion of which he made a mockery. She added that it was petty that the people in the meeting were laughing on the CMs statement of the monthly period and asserted that there was no reason to laugh and it was a serious issue.  “This is shameful statement and I am ashamed to belong to the State which has a leader who makes mockery of our monthly menstrual cycle,” she said.
