Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba called on the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof DP Singh at his office in New Delhi on Friday.
Subba was accompanied by Sikkim Central University Vice Chancellor Prof Avinash Khare.

During the meeting, Subba and Prof Khare apprised the UGC chairman regarding the need of CSIR-UGC NET examination centre in Sikkim.
They also apprised the UGC chairman that establishment of CSIR-UGC NET examination centre would benefit not only Sikkim but also the neighbouring regions of North Bengal as well.
The Sikkim MP also requested the UGC chairman to enlist Bhutia, Lepcha and Limboo languages as postgraduate (PG) courses in the list of subjects for CSIR-UGC NET examination.

The MP informed that Bhutia, Lepcha and Limboo languages were started in Sikkim Central University in 2016.
He also apprised the UGC chairman regarding the pending work of construction of permanent campus at Yangang in South Sikkim.
Lok Sabha MP Subba also stressed on the need of one-time grant for construction of the permanent campus.
