Amar Subba, popularly known as ‘Marathon Man’of Sikkim, who has been appointed one of the ambassadors for Ruggedian Kolhapur Ultra Marathon 2018, informed on Tuesday that four runners from Sikkim, including him, will participate at the event starting from February 11 next.

The three other runners from the State are Sushila Rai, Buddha Singh Subba and Surat Raj Subba.

While Sushila Rai and Buddha Singh Subba will participate in women’s and men’s category of the half marathon respectively, Surat Raj Subba will participate in 10-km run.

The trio have been coached by Amar Subba himself.

The marathon event will take place in Kolhapur, Maharashtra on February 11 and more than 50,000 athletes from all over of the country are expected to participate.

Amar Subba will be participating in the 50 km category.

The ‘marathon man’ of Sikkim also said he will be participating in the marathon to set an example and also to promote Sikkim Organic Mission apart from the rich culture and heritage of the State.

Sikkim has been observing Sikkim Organic Day on January 18 ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made the landmark declaration of Sikkim as the first Organic Farming State in the country on January 18 in 2016.

He informed that this year, the event has only marathon run and no obstacle category.

The lone female participant from Sikkim, Sushila Rai is a promising and emerging long distance runner.

She had recently participated in Patna Marathon where she finished third.

She had won the Sikkim Runathon and finished third in Sikkim Run last year.

The team will be leaving for Kolhapur on February 7.
