Three floors of STNM Hospital at Socheygang in East Sikkim have been designated for COVID-19 facility.

All required facilities and manpower for COVID-19 have been put in place at seventh, eighth and ninth floors of STNM Hospital to tackle any emergency if arises in the State.

This was informed by principal chief consultant-cum-medical superintendent, STNM Hospital, Dr Passang D Phempu in Gangtok on Thursday.

He informed that 70 per cent of civil works of the testing lab for coronavirus in the hospital has been completed and was likely to be completed very soon.

He applauded the contributions made by a team of doctors to set up the COVID-19 facilities in the hospital.

He mentioned that the COVID-19 facility in the hospital was prepared to face any situation if happens in the State.

Additional medical superintendent, Dr Yudok Bhutia, who is also the nodal officer for COVID-19, gave a brief detail about facilities and manpower which has been set up in the three floors of the hospital.

She informed that there were separated entrance for the COVID-19 patients and separate lift facilities have been designated to reach COVID-19 facility.

She informed that the thermal scanning and flu clinic has been set up on the ground floor of the hospital to check up person with flu like symptoms and having history of travelling and contact any COVID-19 patient.

Dr Bhutia informed that samples of suspected patients have been sending to testing lab at North Bengal Medical College for testing.

She informed that screening has also been set up at the main gate of the hospital and suspected has been send to flu clinic for the check-up by a team of specialists.

She informed that the ninth floor was for the suspected patients, while eighth and ninth floors having the isolation ward which also having 20 beds with ICU facilities.

It is informed that the COVID-19 facilities have 300 beds including ICU facilities and other facilities for doctors and nurses and other health workers.

It is informed that the hospital has received sufficient personal protection equipment and other materials for the protection of doctors and health workers.
