Sikkim football team defeated home team Bihar 3-0 in the east-zone Santosh Trophy qualifying round match on Sunday.

In Sikkim’s sweeping victory over Bihar, striker Nagen Tamang scored one goal while another striker Pelsang Lama scored a brace.

Leading with 1-0 in the first half, the team from Sikkim saw a strike from Pelsang in 21 minutes. Pelsang scored his second goal with a penalty shot in added time, while Nagen doubled the lead in the 65 minutes.

Arjun Rai, Sikkim Team Manager said, “We had some problems in the first half as the ground conditions were new to us and the players took a little time to adjust. However, in the second half, the team settled down and dominated the game. Our team played very well in the game today.”

Accompanying the state team is Bhaichung Bhutia, former Indian Football Captain as the Chief Coach and Suren Chettri as the Coach.

Sikkim will now face Odisha on January 30 in the second qualifiers. The winner of that qualifying match will then move on to the next round of the Santosh Trophy National Football Tournament.
