The Boys Club of Gangtok in Sikkim has announced to organize the sixth edition of Inter Departmental Football Tournament 2018 in the month of November this year at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.

Due to some unavoidable circumstances this annual tournament could not take place last year so the organizers have decided to organize the tournament in a grander manner this year. The league-cum-knock out tournament is likely to be started tentatively on November 20.

Following the same, the first meeting of the club with representatives of different government departments of the State was held at the Paljor Stadium on Friday evening.

During the meeting, the organizing committee gave various details about the tournament to the departmental representatives.

It is informed that the organizing committee will send the registration form and rule book of the tournament to every department.

The last date of the submission of the registration form to the committee is October 20.

Speaking to media persons, Boys Club coordinator, Nima Thendup mentioned that government departments were very excited for the upcoming tournament and more new teams were likely to join this year.

A total of 23 teams had participated in the last edition of the tournament.

On behalf of the club, he also thanked the State Government for given an opportunity once again to organize this tournament.

He also thanked the State Government for its encouragements to sports, sportspersons and clubs through incentives and grants.

Thendup stated that the tournament will now be an annual calendar event of the club which will start on August 17 every year from next year.

He explained that the tournament was a recreational activity for government employees after their hectic work and also to encourage them towards fitness and to live a healthy life through sports.

He added that with the starting of this tournament most of government employees have been sweating hard every day on the field to prepare for the tournament.

He added that due to the tournament many good footballers have also got jobs in different departments.

“This tournament is for healthy Sikkim,” he said.
