Addressing the gathering, senior vice-president of the party and former soccer giant, Bhaichung Bhutia alleged that the SDF president  and State Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has failed to build up the new line of leadership in the party in last 25 years.

He further alleged that Chamling has never allowed any new leader to grow in the party to ensure his one man rule. On the same vein, he stated that HSP will not allow any members to hold dual posts for the Chief Minister and party president.

He further lashed out at the ruling party and its government on corruption and other issues.

Bhaichung stated that the party will abolish the party based panchayat election, if voted to power in the ensuing Assembly elections of the State, to provide opportunity to the people of the State to choose their panchayat who will work for the overall development of the area.

He further alleged that the SDF panchayat has been working for the party and not for the people and the area.

He also strongly criticized the statement of the Chief Minister on accusing him for playing for money during his football career.

“This statement is not only my insult but this is the insult of every footballer who have been playing and earning livelihood with their hard work and talent outside the State and it is also an insult of every Sikkimese who have been working outside the State in different sectors,” he expressed.

He also alleged that the SDF has approached a national party in New Delhi for an alliance in the upcoming Assembly election and has also offered 10 seats to that national party.

Bhaichung also exuded confidence that SDF will not form the next government in 2019 election.

“Although I have not much experience in politics but I have played for India for 16 years and led the Indian team for long years. So I have been working with same hard work and honesty in the politics for the people of Sikkim,” he added.

The meeting was also addressed by senior vice-president, Ran Bahadur Subba and other leaders of the party.
