Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Golay expressed disappointment on the absence of the opposition legislators in the ongoing Budget Session 2019 of Legislative Assembly.
He expressed that instead to deliver the role of a responsible opposition, the absence of the opposition legislators in the Assembly was not healthy for democracy.

He further said that it was the insult of the people’s mandate.
He once again urged SDF legislators to come and participate in the ongoing Assembly session in the interest of the people.
The chief minister was replying to discussion on Motion of Thanks on Governor’s Address during the second day of the ongoing Budget Session of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

While urging the opposition leader and legislators to participate in the Assembly session, the chief minister thanked SDF legislators, G T Dhungel and E M Prasad Sharma for attending the Assembly session in the interest of the people by going against the decision of their party.
He further congratulated them for taken a bold and brave decision in the interest of the people and for supporting the people’s Budget.
“We had expected the role of a responsible opposition from the opposition but their absence in the assembly is not healthy in the democracy and it is the insult of the people’s mandate,” he said.
He once again welcomed SDF legislators to come and participate in the ongoing Assembly session in the interest of the people.
The chief minister stated that Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party had delivered its role of a responsible opposition in last five years by raising the voice of the people, but it was really saddening that the SDF leader, former chief minister and a senior politician has now failed to deliver the responsibility of the opposition.
He expressed that this nature of the former chief minister shows that SDF was always after power and not to stay as a responsible opposition.
He added that such nature was very unhealthy in the democracy.
He stated that the Assembly was to build the future of Sikkim and its people.
Speaking on the White Paper placed in the Assembly on Monday, the chief minister invited the discussion and suggestion on the White Paper by members of the ruling and opposition.
He expressed that the government was dedicated to fulfill all basic needs, hope and aspiration of the people of Sikkim despite of the huge financial obligation on the government.
He stated that the government has been committed to provide the best and quality medical facilities and quality education to everyone was another top priority of the State government for the inclusive development of Sikkim.
He added that the government would also work in skill development, eco-tourism and green industry in the priority basis.
In his reply to discussion on Motion of Thanks on Governor’s Address, the chief minister expressed gratitude to the Governor for his address during the opening of the Budget Session 2019 on Monday.
He further thanked the Governor for highlighting every relevant issues and for touching every areas in his address.
