Nearly 100 monks in two Buddhist Monasteries in the Himalayan State of Sikkim have tested positive for COVID-19.
COVID-19 positive cases have been detected from Rumtek Monastery and Gonjang Monastery.
As many as 37 positive cases of COVID-19 were detected from the Rumtek Monastery.
On the other hand, 61 monks in the Gonjang Monastery have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Gonjang Monastery has already been converted into a a containment zone.
The monks who tested COVID-19 positive have been reportedly shifted to an isolation centre.
Gonjang Monastery is located just 8 kilometres from Sikkim Capital – Gangtok.
On the other hand, the Rumtek Monastery, a World Heritage Site, is located 24 kilometres from Gangtok.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 situation in Sikkim continues to be grim.
The Sikkim Government has announced extension of ongoing lockdown by another week till May 31 due to rising cases.
Sikkim has logged 101 new COVID-19 cases and eight more related deaths in the last 24 hours.
