The Limboo-Tamang Voluntary Committee [LTVC] during a meeting on Sunday here at Chokasum unanimously decided to call for Sikkim bandh on September 25.

The meeting, which was called mainly to have a discussion on Limboo Tamang seats reservation issue, was attended by representatives from different political parties and organisations of Sikkim.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, LTVC president Yehang Tshong mentioned that the meeting, attended by representatives from different political parties and organisations of Sikkim, unanimously decided to call for Sikkim bandh on September 25 in peaceful manner.

He mentioned that Sikkim bandh was most important among four proposals passed unanimously by Sunday’s meeting.

Other proposals include the demand to the State Government to pass a bill on the seat reservation for Limboo and Tamang in the State Assembly within 15 days, reservation of LT seats in the State Assembly before 2019 election and LT seat reservation bill in the upcoming Monsoon session of the Parliament.

Tshong mentioned that the decision to call for Sikkim bandh was to put pressure on the State Government and the Centre on their demands. He added that the bandh has also been called keeping in view the State visit of the Prime Minister scheduled for September 23 to send the message to the Centre.

He warned that if LT seat reservation issue would not be placed in the upcoming monsoon session of the Parliament then LTVC would take a tough action and the Sikkim Government would be completely responsible for the same. He asserted on the permanent solution of the issue irrespective of any formula.

Tshong stated that due to silence of the State government LTVC has been compelled to take these actions. He added that there was still time with the State government so it should take all political parties and organisation in confidence before taking any action.
