In a major setback for the newly floated political party of ace footballer Bhaichung Bhutia, the Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP), its vice-president Gopal Pathak has been arrested by the Sikkim Police for allegedly circulating fake documents in social media related to State Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling.
The accused was arrested from the Rhenock East Sikkim area against a case filed at the Sadar Police Station.
The HSP vice-president was arrested after he allegedly uploaded some fake documents on various social media platforms.
An FIR has also been filed in this regard according to which the document being circulated has been forged and was circulated with the malicious design to defame the image of the Chief Minister and also instigate people to create an atmosphere of hate and conflict among different castes and communities of the people within the State.
The accused will be produced in the court later on Thursday.
Notably, Sikkim is going for Assembly elections early next year.
The last Assembly election was held simultaneously with the parliamentary elections in 2014 where the incumbent Chief Minister led Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) swept the polls winning 32 out of the total 40 seats.
