Sikkim to host All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament which is scheduled to be held from December 4-9, 2017 at Sports Complex of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), Majhitar, Rangpo. The tournament is being organized by the Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS), under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), sponsored by Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim.

Addressing a press conference at Tourism mini conference hall, BAS President C. Zangpo spoke on the importance of badminton which helps in the overall development of a person since fitness plays such a huge role in the personality of an individual.

“This time we have been given the opportunity by BAI to organize the All India Senior Ranking Badminton Championship in Sikkim where a total of 487 badminton players will participate in the tournament. This ranking tournament is very important for national players as it helps them to get shortlisted for International tournaments,’ Zangpo said.

The tournament will be in five categories; Men’s single, Men’s Double, Women’s single, Women’s double and Mixed Double and a player can also take part in all three categories. It was also informed that the cash prize of Rs. 5.00 lakh will be given to the players in proportion as per the norms.

According to BAS, top ten international players like Pratul Joshi, Ansal Yadav, Bodhit Joshi, Anura Prabhu Desai, Rasika Raje, Riya Mukerjee, Shika Gautam, Vignesh Deswalkar, Anil Kr. Raju and Venkat Gaurava Prasad will participate in this ranking tournament.
