Another team from Sikkim secured its berth in the quarter-final round of the ongoing 38th All India Governor’s Gold Cup International Football Tournament 2018 here at Paljor Stadium.

In a nail-biting pre-quarterfinal match played on Thursday, Sikkim Aakraman Football Club outplayed Sagolband United, Manipur 4-2 via tie-breaker.

Both teams played an attacking game since the start of the game with attacks and counter-attacks but missed the net to take the lead in the match and the first half ended goalless draw.

In the second half, both the teams failed to capitalize some golden opportunities into the lead and the full time of the match ended goalless. The match entered into the extra-time game to decide the winner but it again ended goalless.

Finally, in the tie-breaker through penalty shoot-out, Sikkim Aakraman FC players converted all four shots into goals but Manipur players managed to score just two goals in four shots.

With this 4-2 win, now Sikkim Aakraman FC will take on an ISL team, Bangaluru Football Club (Reserve) in the quarter-final match on October 29.

The last pre-quarter-final match of the tournament will be played between Rainbow SC, Kolkata and Calcutta Customs on Friday.
