Accomplished soccer referee from Sikkim, Reshme Chettri returned from Fukuoka in Japan after recently officiating Sanix Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament 2018 organized by Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
As many as 16 teams participated in the tournament including teams from Malaysia, Korea, Russia, Taipei and different parts of Japan.
Reshmi was among the 14 referees deputed by AFC from different countries for the tournament.
Out of 14, four were women referees.
Besides officiating the tournament, the referees also underwent training on the law of the game conducted by FIFA trainers.
The Sikkim Football Association (SFA) had accorded a rousing welcome ceremony at Gangtok after her return where Reshme was felicitated for her achievements in the field of refereeing, both nationally and internationally.
SFA president Menla Ethenpa lauded her role and congratulated her for earning so many laurels at this young age.
He also said that SFA desires to witness Reshme in the FIFA referee panel, therefore he advised her to work with more dedication to achieve the same.
Chamchuk Lama, head of Sikkim Referee Board, informed that he is working hard to produce more referees from the State and exuded confidence that Reshme can be a role model for aspiring referees.
Reshme on her part expressed her gratitude to SFA and SFA Referee Board for giving her the opportunity and exposure and vowed to work harder in days to come to achieve more laurels for her home state of Sikkim.
