Sikkimese strength lifters have bagged 21 medals for the country in the seventh International Strength Lifting & Incline Bench Press Championship 2019 held from January 17 to 20 at Karmazari of Pench in Madhya Pradesh.

It is a matter of pride that Edu Tshering Bhutia has also set the world record in the women’s inclined bench press by lifted the weight of 75.5 kgs and Pema Dorjee Bhutia also set the world record in master’s inclined bench press by lifting the weight of 135.5 kgs.

Interestingly, all 11 lifters from Sikkim in the India team have bagged medals for the country, which includes 10 gold medals, five silver medals and six bronze medals.

All three women strength lifters from Sikkim, Edu Tshering Bhutia, Ranju Sundas and Kalpana Chettri bagged two gold medals each for the country.

Likewise, Pema Dorjee Bhutia also bagged two gold medals, Thinley Wangdi Bhutia won one gold medal and one silver medal, Homnath Siwakoti clinched one gold medal and one bronze medal,

Ganesh Kumar Subba won one silver medal and one bronze medal, Ongdup Tamang bagged two silver medals, Palden Tamang won one silver medal and one bronze medal, Santosh Gupta won two bronze medals and Pempa Tamang won one bronze medal for the country.
