The Sakyong Senior Secondary School, near Gezying in Sikkim has got its own boxing arena, thanks to the efforts of 36th battalion of Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB).

The boxing arena, first in the West district, was inaugurated by area MLA Chandra Maya Subba at a function held at the school recently.

The inaugural function was also graced by Arjuna Award recipient former boxer and Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association president Jas Lal Pradhan as special guest, SSB commandant Joy Gopal Namasudra and local dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan said the youth of West Sikkim has enough potential to be good boxers.

He advised all the youth who opt for boxing to learn the sport sincerely to become a successful boxer.

He also thanked the SSB commandant and area MLA for extending their support in establishing the boxing arena at the school premises.

School principal Bandana Rai said the boxing arena was very essential for their students who have been taking boxing coaching.

The MLA, in her address, thanked the SSB for the generous work done by them and urged the youth of West Sikkim to take maximum benefit out of the boxing arena.

She also congratulated the local youth and the coaches who participated in state boxing championship held in Gangtok recently and won medals.
