A four-member team of long distance runners from Sikkim is all set to participate in the Ruggedian Kolhapur Run – Ultra Marathon to be held on February 11 at Kolhapur in Maharashtra. The team led by the Marathon Man of Sikkim, Amar Subba left on Wednesday for the event.

Amar Subba is also a Brand Ambassador of the event. Other team members are Sushila Rai, Surat Raj Subba and Buddha Singh Subba, who all are students of Amar Subba.

Subba on Tuesday said, “It is a great honour for me to be a brand ambassador of such prestigious international event like Ruggedian Kolhapur Run – Ultra Marathon. Apart from the promotion of this event, we will also promote our Sikkim Organic Mission in this event.”

He said the competition has 15,000 marathon runners of national and international levels so it would be a great platform for his students to test their calibre and to gain international level experiences.

Subba will also be participating in 50 KMs ultra marathon in the event, while Sushila and Surat will be participating in 21 KMs marathon and Buddha Singh will take part in 10 KMs run.

“I just got 10 days to prepare for this event due to my busy scheduled this time but I worked hard double in these 10 days. So, I am hopeful to do better in the competition,” he said.

Likewise, Sushila, who is a class XII student of Dentam senior secondary school, already shown her mettle in marathons held in Sikkim and also finished third at the recently held Patna Marathon in 21 KMs.

“I have prepared hard for this competition and my participation in the recent Patna Marathon boost my confidence to do better in this competition,” she said. She said the competition will be tough in the presence of international level runners but will be a great learning platform.
