Sikkim Krantikari Nari Morcha, the women’s wing of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party, convened a meeting at the party head office in Gangtok on Thursday and took pledge to work for the empowerment of women.
The meeting, which was chaired by Sikkim Krantikari Nari Morcha General Secretary Pavitra Bhandari, discussed various issues of women on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, stated an SKM press communique.
The statement informed that the meeting discussed the present situation of women and stressed that women should move forward for their rights and privileges.
Bhandari pointed out that although the women have been coming out in various areas but the perception of the society has not been changed so far.
She also mentioned that women have been doing well in various sectors but there was need of change in social structure.
However, Nari Morcha General Secretary Pavitra Bhandari mentioned it was an irony in the society that women have still been becoming victims of domestic violence. During the meeting, all the participants took the pledge to empower women of the State on the occasion of celebrating the International Women’s Day.
