Sikkim Governor Shriniwas Patil said Sikkim has emerged as one of the most progressive states in the country and appealed to the people of the State for efficient governance, hard work and self-reliance.
“Over the decades, Sikkim has leapfrogged in progress and development. Democracy has been strengthened and at the same time the people have prospered economically. My government has made all efforts to capitalize on the opportunities and strengths of the State due to which, Sikkim today, is one of the most progressive States in the country,” said the Governor in his Republic Day message to the people of Sikkim.

“Over the decades, my government has introduced and implemented many innovative programmess that have brought about positive and visible transformation in the socio-economic developmental front. My Government has made all efforts to address issues and challenges to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people.
Sikkim is one of the best States in the country recording impressive increase in many of the socio-economic indicators. My government endeavours to move at this strong pace with total focus on its mission to serve the people of our State.”
The Governor also spoke on the way forward for Sikkim as a certified organic farming State.

“Sikkim is now focusing on value addition and sale outside the State by increasing yield, using technology and promoting production of niche premium value added products. In addition, efforts are being made for aggressive branding and marketing of ‘Organic Sikkim’ brand through GI tagging, appointing brand ambassador and linking with home stays and wellness tourism as well as forging distribution tie-ups with institutional buyers, other countries and e-commerce players,” he said.
On rural development, the Governor mentioned that Sikkim has been a pioneer and a trend setter in the country. Many innovative schemes that were envisioned and are being implemented in the State are now being emulated by other States, he said.
He concluded his customary speech urging the people to take a pledge to unitedly work towards all-round progress and prosperity of the hill state.
