Sikkim CM meets PM Modi in Delhi

Guwahati: Sikkim Chief Minister P. S. Tamang on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Parliament House in New Delhi and both the leaders discussed integral issues related to Sikkim which included the demand for tribal status by some communities.

The Sikkim Chief Minister took to his social media handle and wrote, โ€œIt was an honor to call on the Honโ€™ble Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodi ji, at the Parliament House in New Delhi. I congratulated him on his third consecutive electoral victory and expressed confidence in his leadership for Indiaโ€™s future. I also thanked the Honโ€™ble Prime Minister for his unwavering support, especially for the prompt relief following the Sikkim flash flood in October 2023. During our meeting, we discussed several key issues pertaining to Sikkim and sought the valuable guidance of the Honโ€™ble Prime Minister.โ€

He further wrote, โ€œI also sought urgent intervention to restore NH-310A, which connects Gangtok to the Indo-China border, following recent cloudbursts in North Sikkim. I also proposed the development of a Himalayan Railway Line between Bakrakote in West Bengal and Rorathang in Sikkim, presenting historical correspondence from 1917 to support this initiative.โ€

Tamang also thanked PM Modi for the Centreโ€™s support in the early relief attempts following the flash floods in Sikkim.

The meeting was also attended by Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba and RS MP D.T. Lepcha.
