Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, who has been on a tour to Europe, on Sunday visited Bologna University, the oldest university of the world which is situated at Bologna in Italy.
Sikkim Chief Minister Chamling was accorded warm welcome by the staff and Vice Rector for International Relations who conducted a brief tour of the University.
Informing about Chief Minister Chamling’s visit to Bologna University, the Sikkim Government on its official Twitter account on Sunday stated: “Chief Minister Shri Pawan Chamling visited Bologna University, the oldest University of the world in Bologna, Italy. He was accorded warm welcome by the staff & Vice Rector for International Relations who conducted a brief tour of the University.”
It may be mentioned that the University of Bologna (in Italian it is – Università di Bologna, UNIBO) was founded in 1088.
It is the oldest university in continuous operation as well as one of the leading academic institutions in Italy and Europe while the University of Oxford is a collegiate research university in Oxford, England which was founded in 1096.
Bologna University is one of the most prestigious Italian universities, which is commonly ranking in the first place of national rankings.
Chief Minister Chamling recently received the Future Policy Gold Award 2018 for the State of Sikkim. In his acceptance address, the Chief Minister dedicated the Award to the ‘great’ people of Sikkim.
