Informing this, the Government of Sikkim on its official Twitter account on Sunday stated: “Indian Ambassador to Italy Reenat Sandhu called on Chief Minister Pawan Chamling in Rome, Italy, today. She congratulated HCM (Pawan Chamling) for organic conversion and making Sikkim 100 percent organic & for winning the Future Policy Gold Award.”
According to a report published on October 12 by The Hindu Business Line stated that Sikkim, the country’s first fully organic State, won the top prize in a UN-backed award on Friday. The organisers reportedly said that its policies had helped over 66,000 farmers, boosted tourism and set an example to other countries.
It may be mentioned that Sikkim was declared fully organic in 2016 after phasing out chemical fertilisers and pesticides and substituting them with sustainable alternatives.
