The 33rd birth anniversary of Buddhist spiritual guru 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje was celebrated in a grand manner at the Rumtek monastery in East District of Sikkim on Wednesday.

Along with the religious ceremonies, the organizing committee Rumtek Tsurphu Labrang had also organized a blood donation camp on earlier on Monday and also extended assistance to the orphans of Child Care Centre located at Bojoghari.

Syari MLA Kunga Nima Lepcha, who was present on the birth anniversary celebration, wished that peace, harmony and unity prevail in Sikkim.

He also said that peace, harmony and unity will come to Sikkim when Karmapa visits Sikkim and ‘blesses each and every generation of Sikkim’.

The celebration started with incense burning ceremony to appease the deities and hanged prayer flags to drive special energy from them to all. Thereafter Mandala offering was offered to the Karmapa for his long life by Goshir Gyaltsab Rinpoche.

The celebration also witnessed the cake cutting ceremony in the afternoon followed by cultural show.

Meanwhile, monks from various monasteries of Sikkim had started a week long puja for the long life of their guru.
