Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine has been launched by the Department of Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare in Sikkim on Monday.

It is a historical moment for the State as Sikkim is the first state to introduce HPV vaccines to protect girl child from nine years to 14 years from getting cervical cancer.

It is informed that HPV vaccination programme is being carried out in the entire State from July 30 to August 14.

This state-level launching programme held at Deorali Girls Senior Secondary School had the presence of the State Chief Secretary A K Srivastava as the chief guest, while it was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary, G P Upadhyaya, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Health Department, Vishal Chauhan and senior officials of Health Department and Human Resource Development Department and others.

With the objective to make Sikkim cervical cancer free State, the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination campaign has been launched in all four districts on Monday.
