Sikkim announces cash rewards to gallantry award winners

Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on Monday announced cash awards to recipients of gallantry and other award winning members of armed forces from the State.

The Chief Minister on Monday announced cash reward of Rs one crore to Param Vir Chakra recipients and Rs 50 lakh each to Ashok Chakra and Mahavir Chakra winners from the State.

Those who are honoured with Vir Chakra, Kriti Chakra and Saurya Chakra would be given Rs 20 lakh, Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh each respectively. Besides, the State Government would present ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh for fatal casualty and Rs 5 lakh for non-fatal casualty of soldiers from the State, Chamling announced.

A one-time felicitation grant of Rs 2 lakh each would be presented to wives of late soldiers this Republic Day, the Chief Minister informed during the flag-off ceremony for newly recruited youths of Sikkim in the Indian Army at the Tashi Namgyal Academy school ground in Gangtok on Monday.

Before flagging off the 109 new Army recruits, the Chief Minister exhorted them to work selflessly and give their valuable service to the nation. He extended his best wishes and told them that he hoped to see them become commissioned officers in near future.

The Chief Minister also interacted with the parents of the recruits and expressed that the youths of Sikkim will shine bright in their profession and make the State proud as well as the Army.
