Lady Keane College, the premier girls’ college of Shillong is going to organize a ‘Festival of Womanhood’ on Thursday commemorating with International Women’s Day.
The celebration will be held at the Sports Complex of the College from 12 noon to 3 pm on the theme, ‘The Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives’.

A statement issued by the Women Cell of Lady Keane College intimating about the celebrations also stated that as part of the programme, the college authorities will honour women hawkers and vendors – the real grassroots entrepreneurs who work under challenging circumstances to earn their livelihood and support their families.
According to the statement issued by the college, this initiative ‘aims to provide a platform for these courageous women and celebrate their achievements and acts of courage’ as part of the festival.
The celebration will also have several stalls to promote the hawkers and vendors, a self-defence skill demonstration and a musical treat by an all- female band, Haystack Ladies.

There will also be a photography exhibition of women hawkers and vendors of Shillong on the occasion.
The initiative, according to the organizers, is also aimed at supporting women empowerment.
