A three-day district level Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) exhibition got underway at the premises of State Central Library in Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya from Tuesday.
Launching the exhibition, Director of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs C P Gotmare appreciated the efforts of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and other stakeholders involved in developing and promoting rural industries.
Gotmare exhorted the participants not to be complacent with their endeavours at the smaller level, but also aim to make it big in a larger canvas.
Highlighting the organic products in the State, Gotmare said that an adequate market has to be created for the organic products of the State.
He also urged the KVIC to find out some units which can get organic certification so that it will add value to their products making them more marketable and generate more income for the producers.
According to Gotmare, Khadi can become new-age fashion trend and organizations involved in developing and marketing Khadi should be more down to business to ensure that village-based industries attain newer heights.
As many as 20 participants from different parts of the State have put up stalls at the exhibition venue displaying their indigenous products.
