Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Dr Dilip Chandra Nath, had to cut short his vacation, and return back to Silchar on Sunday. But, what surprised most are his callous remarks about the sex scandal that has taken the whole university by storm.

Speaking to Northeast Now upon his arrival, Dr Dilip Chandra Nath, informed, “I have just come and I have to look into the matter. This issue is not as grave as it has been projected”. He added, “The Registrar, the Acting VC and the Internal Complaints Committee are looking into the matter and whatever decision they have taken so far, I would go through it.”

When asked about the mood of the students and especially the Assam University Students Union (AUSU) who last Friday vandalized his chamber, he said, “Many demands come up in as many universities of our country, but everything has to be worked upon, one by one, and we should not reach a hasty conclusion”.

Reacting to these comments of the Vice Chancellor Dr Dilip Chandra Nath, President of Assam University Students Union speaking to us said, “A statement like this can only be given by a mentally sick person and we would give him a fitting reply once he steps in our campus tomorrow”.

Das, also added that, in the last two years of Dr Dilip Chandra Nath’s term in this university, Assam University has plummeted on all counts and only his resignation from this campus can bring about some change.

Meanwhile, as the state goes for declaring its second and final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) tomorrow, some students in Assam University campus would keenly look for the arrival of Vice Chancellor Dr Dilip Chandra Nath, to see, whether he signs for the suspension of the accused HOD of Agriculture Engineering Department Dr Sudipto Sarkar, or shelters one more such criminals living in gay abandon in this central university.
