Dakshin Bajali Students’ Union, unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) with the local public of the area staged an angry protest by blocking the roads at Malipara in all the three sides of the area connecting Sarthebari, Tihu, Pathsala in Bajali subdivision of Barpeta district demanding immediate arrest of the culprit who allegedly raped a minor girl.
Following the incident of a rape case of a 14-year-old minor girl by a married man at Malipara area on Monday evening, an FIR was lodged in this regard.
The victim is a student of Class X.
According to the family members of the victim, on Monday evening at around 7 pm, when the victime went out of her home in search of her father, one 45-year-old Adhoy Malakar caught her and forcefully took her to the backside of his furniture store and raped her. Adhoy, is a neighbour of the victim.
The victim’s family members further claimed that Adhoy also threatened the minor girl saying that he has got some objectionable pictures of the girl which he would leak if she tells about the incident to her parents.
But the victim after returning home told her family members about the incident. As the news of the rape incident spread like wildfire, the locals in the area got infuriated and vandalized the furniture store of Malakar.
However, sensing danger, Malakar immediately fled from the scene.
After the girl reported about the incident to her family members, the family members lodged an FIR with the Patacharkuchi police station against the accused.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the locality and the family members of the girl and Dakshin Bajali unit of AASU have demanded immediate arrest of the culprit and give stringent punishment to him.
While speaking to NorthEast Now, the officer-in-charge of Patacharkuchi police station, Biren Kalita, said, “Adhoy, who was allegedly involved in the incident, is still on the run.”
The police official also informed that they have started the investigation. “A case has been registered against the culprit at Patacharkuchi PS,” police official Kalita added.
More the 200 protesters participated in the rally. Raju Ahmed, secretary of Dakshin Bajali unit of AASU said, “We will continue our protest if Bajali Police fail to arrest the accused within 48 hours.
Later, Bajali police administration and CRPF jawans rushed to the spot to control the situation.
