Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju said that the Northeast is a strategic area and its security is of paramount importance.
For this, he said the role of Assam Rifles plays a significant role by providing security to the region.
Addressing the attestation parade of the new recruits at Assam Rifles Training Centre and School Sukhovi in Dimapur, Rijiju highlighted the antecedents of the Assam Rifles as the oldest paramilitary force of the country and the diversified role it plays in the present day environment, ranging from security to providing welfare and developmental assistance to the civilians.
This was stated in a press release issued by the PRO, Assam Rifles.
Rijiju also complimented Assam Rifles for their professional commitment, which he said, has been illustrated by the laurels and the gallantry awards won by the force, the release stated.
According to the press statement issued by the PRO of Assam Rifles, altogether 233 recruits, including 22 women recruits were inducted into the force.
The Union Minister also lauded DGAR, Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan for leading the force to its present stature and also complimented commandant ATRC&S Brig Gurjap Singh and staff for imparting value based training to recruits for their future as trained soldiers, the release also stated.
On the occasion, Rijiju also presented awards to the passing out recruits for their outstanding performance during training.
After witnessing the training activities of the women recruits, Rijiju maintained that the robust training imparted to the women recruits would not only make them capable and worthy warriors but also empower them in different facets of professional and personal life, the release further stated.
Later, the minister also addressed the troops of the centre during a ‘Special Sainik Sammelan’.
