Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party has confirmed the joining of its 10 legislators with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi on Tuesday.

However, the party stated that it will give its reaction on this political development only after discussing and consulting with leaders and cadres of the party at the grassroots level.
The party clarified that these legislators of the party have joined BJP individually and the party has not been merged.
Addressing a press conference in Gangtok on Tuesday, SDF spokesperson, P D Rai confirmed that 10 legislators of SDF party have joined BJP in the presence of BJP working president, J P Nadda and senior leader Ram Madhav in New Delhi.
He stated that the present political situation in the State was very unstable and there was misgovernance in SKM government in the State.
He mentioned that SKM has been placing the people from the outside in the higher post in the government.
He also said that there was constant attacks and suppression of SDF cadres at the grassroots level by the ruling party.
He further added that there was very negative political situation presently in the State.
Rai expressed that this action of legislators may be the logical conclusion of a political process in such unstable political situation in the State.
However, he stated that the high command of the party has been taking reaction from youths, leaders, panchayats and party cadres of SDF party at the grassroots level on this political development in the State.
He added that only after consulting and discussion with everyone the party would give its reaction on this political development in the State.
Rai stated that BJP was very strong force in the country under the dynamic leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the country has been witnessing the political reality in the BJP government.
He expressed that BJP was interested to bring the stable government in the State.
However, he stated that SDF has always been standing with Sikkim and its people and has been battling to fulfill all political demands of the people of Sikkim.
Likewise, SDF spokesperson, K T Gyaltsen informed that SDF party conducted a high-level meeting of senior leaders of the party at the party office.
He informed that there was no intimation and resignation of these legislators to the party.
He clarified that they have joined BJP individually and not the party.
“As SDF is a cadre based party, so we will discuss and debate with our party cadres at the grassroots level to give the party stand on this political development,” he said.
However, Gyaltsen mentioned that the party president, Pawan Chamling has the thought and desire to work for the people of Sikkim from the SDF party.
He added that SDF party will always fight for the interest of Sikkim and its people.
He mentioned that SDF president has already promised to work for the people as strong opposition.
He added that SDF formed the government for five consecutive times in the State due to its constitution and principle in the interest of Sikkim and its people.
