One school bus conductor of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Amerigog, who was arrested by Basistha Police in Guwahati on Wednesday morning on charges of being allegedly involved in ‘sexually misconducting’ minor girls inside the school bus for the last few months, has been jailed.
The accused has been identified as 28-year-old Manoj Kalita, a resident of Kahilipara area in Guwahati.
He was arrested from the school premises at around 10 am on Wednesday.
Police sources informed that the matter came to light during counselling of the students in the school on October 1.
“The school authority, after getting information regarding the matter, had lodged an FIR with the Basistha Police Station on October 1,” Officer-in-Charge of Basistha Police Station, Nabajit Baghri told Northeast Now over the phone on Wednesday.
A case (no 1277/18) under Section 12 (Punishment for sexual harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 has been registered at Basistha Police Station.
Later, the accused was produced in the court of the District and Sessions Judge, Kamrup (Metro) which sent him to judicial custody.
Kendriya Vidyalaya, Amerigog, a reputed academic institution, is located in the CRPF group centre at 9th Mile in Guwahati.
