The first annual conference of the Asom Gorkha Khas Mahasabha was held at the Golmagaon High School premises with a day-long  programme recently.

The scheduling of the Gorkha community was highlighted during the conference.

The programme began with the hoisting of the Mahasabha’s flag by the president of the Asom Gorkha Khas Mahasabha, Dr Harka Bahadur Chhetry, followed by smriti tarpan by the AGKM general secretary Dipak Nirola.

The cultural exhibition was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri, Dilip Kumar Das.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Das said that the process of scheduling the Gorkha community has already been started and a field study in this regard is going on.

On the occasion, Ashwini Bora, an official of the Department of Welfare for Plain Tribes & Backward Classes, was also felicitated by the Asom Gorkha Khas Mahasabha.

Tarapati Upadhyaya, a renowned academician and writer, who is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, released the souvenir of the Mahasabha titled ‘Khas Darpan’ which was published to mark the occasion.

During the delegates’ session of the annual conference of the Khas Mahasabha, the discussions highlighted the issue of scheduling of the community.

Basudev Upadhyaya, the general secretary of the Asom Gorkha Sanmellan, inaugurated the delegates’ session.

RP Sarma, the president of the Asom Gorkha Sanmellan and also the Lok Sabha MP of the Tezpur constituency, was present at the conference of the Khas Mahasabha.

Sarma also delivered a speech at the conference.
