Stepping up its drive against smuggling of contraband items through trains, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered various contraband items worth over Rs. 1.25 lakh in 4 days.
The contraband items were recovered during regular checks and drives at various stations and trains under NF Railway from July 13-16, 2021.
The recovered items include foreign liquor, banned drugs and ganja, the NF Railway said in a statement.
In one such incident on July 13, 2021, the RPF team and the train escort party conducted a drive in train No. 05910 UP (Avadh Assam Express) under the supervision of IPF/Dibrugarh.
During the operation, the RPF and escort teams recovered one unclaimed bag containing 110 bottles of foreign liquor (90 ml each) from a coach of the train.
Later, the recovered liquors were handed over to the inspector of excise, Dibrugarh for necessary action.
The value of the recovered liquor is estimated to be approximately Rs. 9,900.
In an incident on July 14, 2021, the RPF Task Force Team of Tinsukia Division while conducting a drive against contraband items in train No. 05928 DN (New Tinsukia – Rangiya special) in between Amguri and Mariani Railway Station under the supervision of DSC/Tinsukia, apprehended 3 persons.
They recovered a total of 87 bottles of foreign liquor worth about Rs. 8,165 from the possession of the three persons.
Later, the apprehended persons along with the recovered/seized liquor were handed over to the inspector of excise, Jorhat for necessary action.
In another incident on July 15, 2021, acting on information regarding the carrying of drugs in train No. 02504 UP (Rajdhani Express) from Bihar, a joint checking was conducted by RPF, police and GRP at Simuluguri Junction railway station.
During the drive, they apprehended two contractual OBHS staff in a coach of the train and recovered 5 plastic packages that were kept concealed inside the hot cage of the coach, the NFR Railway statement said.
On opening the packages, a huge quantity of banned drug ‘Spasmo Proxyvon (SP)’ capsules in loose (total 6,780 capsules) were found.
The recovered capsules were seized by GRP/Simuluguri Junction and the persons were taken into custody. In this regard, a case was registered u/s 22(c) NDPS Act.
The value of the recovered/seized capsules is estimated to be approximately Rs. 67,800.
Moreover, on July 16, 2021, RPF team of RPF post at Agartala, during checking in train No. 07029 DN (Agartala – Secunderabad Summer Special) at Agartala station, recovered one unclaimed bag containing 2 packets of ganja, weighing about 4 kgs from general coach.
Later, the recovered/seized ganja was handed over to OC of GRP, Agartala for further necessary action.
The value of the recovered ganja is estimated to be approximately Rs. 40,000.
