Along with the rest of the State, Rongali Bihu has been celebrated by various Bihu organizing committees across Mangaldai, the district headquarter of Darrang from two to five-day programmes with traditional fervour and gaiety.

The central Bihu celebration committee – Xadou Mangaldai Rongali Bihu Xanmilani – started celebrating its 64th edition of Rongali Bihu festival at the historic Gandhi Maidan from Sunday with a five-day-long programme in two phases.

The celebration began with the hoisting of the Bihu flag by Mangaldai MLA Gurujyoti Das as well as the President of the organizing committee in presence of other office-bearers of the organizing including its Secretary Dignata Mani Bora and a large number of locals, children, youths and artistes.

This was followed by a colourful cultural procession throughout the Mangldai town which was flagged off Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kr Barman.

Earlier, the organizers felicitated at least five prominent senior citizens from each ward under Mangaldai Municipal Board by visiting their respective residential areas. After the inaugural day organized in the first day, the celebration is going to last for four more days from April 24 to April 27 next in the second phase.

The celebration features a variety of contests in the field of culture and sports which include ‘All Assam Mukoli Bihu’, ‘All Assam Bihu Kuwori’, ‘All Assam Ekankika Natak’, ‘All Assam Marathon Race’ and ‘All Assam Cycling’ contests among others.

The State level and district level contests organized on the occasion of Rongali Bihu celebration have involved a total cash prize of around Rs 1.59 lakh with a significant increase on average in comparison to that of the previous years.

Apart from this, the highlight of the celebration will be the cultural evening to be organized on the closing day of the celebration on April 27 next where heartthrob singer of the young generation, Zubin Garg, is going to perform as the guest artiste.

Besides Xadou Mangldai Rongali Bihu Xanmilani, several other Bihu Xanmilani across Mangaldai including 38th Chapai Rongali Bihu Xanmilani and 25th Dakshin Mangaldai Rongali Bihu Xanmilani have also been celebrating Rongali Bihu with a number of programmes since Sunday.
