In a tragic road accident an 18-year old girl died on the spot and three others were left critically injured when a 12-wheeler goods carrier truck and an auto-rickshaw collided head on at Gangasagar on Bagpasa-Dharmanagar road Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Anindita Mahanto (18), her mother Sanchita Mahamto and her aunt Anita Chowdhury also sustained injuries in the accident. The auto-rickshaw driver identified as Biswesar Debnath (33) was also critically injured.

The accident has triggered massive panic among the locals of the area.

Following the accident a huge posse of police personnel and fire service tender reached the spot. The injured were rushed to district hospital.  Later they were taken to Silchar for further treatment.

The 12-wheeler truck bearing registration number ML-01-M 7943 was heading towards Dharmanagar from Guwahati and collided head on with the auto-rickshaw (TR 02 B 3261) at Gangasagar area.

Police arrested the truck driver Ratan Dey and a case has been registered against him.
