The Kamrup (metro) administration has imposed restriction in the celebration of New Year’s party in Guwahati after 12.30 am on January 1.
According to an advisory issued by the district administration said on New Year’s eve liquor will be served in bars according to the time mentioned in the licence and all other celebrations are to stop by 12.30am.
Teams comprising officials from administration, police, health, transport and excise departments will be formed to conduct surprise inspections, said the advisory.
The notice said premises which intend to celebrate New Year’s eve will have to take special permission and obtain a no objection certificate from the commissioner of police and the district administration (excise branch).
The administration has also urged people not to drink and drive on that day. The do’s and don’ts issued by the administration, sources said, could also have to do with the publication of the draft NRC on December 31.
All bars and restaurants have been directed to install closed circuit cameras, both inside and outside the premises and make sure there are no “shadow areas” on the premises.
Strict vigil has to be maintained inside and outside the bars and restaurants and all approach roads leading to these places should be properly maintained with adequate lighting and power back-up.
