Chairman of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Pradyut Bora on Friday announced the formation of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) in Guwahati with two other regional parties and Axom Sangrami Mancha.

Addressing the media in Guwahati on Friday, Bora said people of the State had voted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to power at Dispur after getting frustrated with the 15-year long Congress rule.

But after attaining power, the BJP has systemically made a diabolic design to thrust Hindu Bangladeshi refugees on Assam through the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Bora was flanked by LDP president Guna Gogoi and Axom Sangrami Mancha president Diganta Konwar during the media interaction.

The Regional Democratic Alliance is planning to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha elections by opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 that threatens the ethnic identity of Assamese people and promises of strengthening the socio-economic foundation of the State.

Addressing the media, Bora said, “If UPA and NDA can be formed at the Centre, why not then a regional alliance in Assam.”

He also said, the Regional Democratic Alliance would try to bring all the regional parties with its fold.

Coming down heavily on Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Bora said that AGP has completely lost its regional identity.

Bora added that since its inception, AGP has been opposing federalism, but now joining hands with BJP, it has forgotten about its stand against federalism.
