Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed BJP saying it has inflicted an assault on the culture prevailing in Meghalaya and the entire Northeastern states.
Talking to Media in Shillong he said, “There is an assault on the culture prevailing in Meghalaya, NE states and in the country due to the imposition of one idea by the BJP and RSS.”

Gandhi told reporters there is angst and discomfort among the people because of the imposition of one idea, and Church leaders and other groups believe that India is made up of million perspectives and forcing only one perspective is not right.
Rahul Gandhi was on a two-day visit to poll-bound Meghalaya.
He said his party is fighting the election on works that have been done, ideology, and the truth. He said his party cannot match the financial power of the BJP, but that would not affect his party’s prospect.

Though the Prime Minister assured of creating two crore new jobs a year, Gandhi said, this has turned into joke with just 450 new jobs.
Earlier during the day, Gandhi met representatives of various Christian denominations, Seng Khasi (an organisation of indigenous Khasi faith), Central Puja committee, Muslim union, Sikh community, besides traditional heads from across the state.
Seng Khasi leader A Tariang said, “There is no suppression of the Khasi indigenous faith, but we apprised Gandhi of the issue related to giving minority status to followers of Khasi indigenous faith.”
Puja committee general-secretary JL Das said, “We discussed with Gandhi on issue relating to development. The fact is, Meghalaya is a Christian-dominated state and there is no denial of religious rights or intolerances here and we work together with Churches and other religious groups for peace and harmony.”
Church of North India’s Bishop Michael said, “We expressed our concern on insecurity because of incidents against minorities in some parts of the country, and the need to march and grow together and respect each other.”
Unitarian Church representative DKB Mukhim said the discussion with Gandhi focussed on unity in diversity of India.
