While most of the political party and organizations staged protest against Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP)-led Central government’s move to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, Brihattar Asomiya Yuba Mancha and Brihattar Asomiya Mahila Mancha activists tonsured head demanding immediate withdrawal of the vexatious Bill during a protest programme at Guwahati’s Dighalipukhuri on Monday.
The protesters shouted slogan – ‘Aah oi aah ulai aah, khed oi khed Bangladeshi khed’ during the protest.
Brihattar Asomiya Yuba Mancha President Padmakanta Das urged the BJP-led Central government and Assam Government to withdraw the Bill immediately in greater interest of the Assamese community.
Appealing to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to play the role of ‘Jaitya Nayak’ (national hero) again, Das said, “We will continue our protest against the Bill until the government withdraws it.”
While most of the political parties and different organizations staged a massive protest against the Central Government’s move to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 during the Joint Parliamentary Committee’s (JPC) public hearing on the bill on May 7, 2018, the Bill received a huge support during JPC’s public hearing on the Bill in Barak Valley on May 8 and 9, 2018.
