In view of urgency in maintenance of peace and tranquility in Kokrajhar district, the District Magistrate of Kokrajhar Niranjan Baruah has promulgated a prohibitory order under section 144/144-A CrPC in the district.

In his order, Kokrajhar District Magistrate Baruah has prohibited assembly of five or more persons, taking out processions, shouting slogans, holding meetings, rallies, dharnas and demonstration in any public place, pillion riding on two wheelers, carrying and brandishing of weapons, fire arms and ammunitions, bow and arrows and any other hazardous tools, procurement, storage, sale and purchase of crackers or firework and use of microphones at outdoor without permission within the district.

However, two-wheeler riders carrying women and children below 12 years, old and infirm persons, Executive Magistrates, police personnel, Army and Para-Military Forces are exempted from the purview of this order.

“This order will come into force from February 22 and will remain in force until further order,” it stated.

As per sources, prohibitory order under section 144 CrPC is promulgated by the District Magistrate of Kokrajhar in Kokrajhar from time to time in apprehension of possible law-and-order problems in the district.
