Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi was sworn in as the Governor of Manipur at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Wednesday. Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur Justice N Kotiswar Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new Governor.
He will take charge as the Manipur Governor in the absence of Dr Najma Heptulla who is on leave for four weeks. Raj Bhavan Imphal sources said Dr Heptulla will be visiting United States to attend her grandson’s graduation event.
The day’s swearing-in ceremony of the new governor was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh,Speaker, Y Khemchand Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Ksh Bhabananda Singh, Council of Ministers, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and other senior officials of the State Government, Police, Army and Senior citizens. After the swearing-in ceremony, the Governor also inspected a guard of honour commanded by Ningshem Vashum commandant of 5th IRB.
Later speaking to reporters, Prof Jagdish said he will discharge his duty as the Governor of Manipur in the absence of Governor of Manipur Dr Najma Heptulla. He said he will try to fulfill every possible welfare programmes of Manipur while in office.
Earlier on his arrival at Imphal International Airport, Governor Jagdish Mukhi accompanied by First Lady Prem Mukhi was accorded a warm welcome by Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, and DGP LM Khaute along with senior Government Officials.
Prof Mukhi a veteran leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former MLA from Janak Puri assembly constituency in Delhi was sworn in as Governor of Assam on October 10, 2017.
Mukhi also served as the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He succeeded former Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit who was appointed as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.
