While the raging flood in Assam continues to wreak havoc, a twitter message from Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Assam Tourism’s agreement with Priyanka Chopra has expired.
Assam government on December 19, 2016 had signed an agreement with Priyanka Chopra, and the Bollywood diva was made the brand ambassador for the Awesome Assam campaign.
In 2017 the Awesome Assam campaign was launched by the Assam Tourism to boost the tourism sector in the state. The publicity focus was on the one-horned rhino, Assam Tea and the mighty Brahmaputra.
“We don’t understand as to why the Assam government decided to drop Priyanka Chopra as our brand ambassador,” Rajib Das, a Guwahati-based businessman, said.
Nandita Dutta, a college student said, “Priyanka Chopra’s presence in Awesome Assam campaign had made our state popular across India. It’s a wrong decision to drop her.”
Despite being dropped as the brand ambassador of Awesome Assam, Priyanka Chopra on Wednesday had urged her fans to come forward and donate to help the flood victims of Assam.

She tweeted, “Extremely devastated by all the news coming in from #Assam and other parts of India. It’s heartbreaking to read about the displacement and loss of life. My prayers with those affected. Please donate.”
